- Many people struggle with spiritual issues that affect their daily lives and relationships.
- However, when they encounter Christ, they will encounter change.
- Satan robs joy, kills dream and destroys achievements but Christ Jesus, the Saviour, has defeated the devil to give you an abundant life – John 10:10
- Christ Jesus was anointed and empowered to help you discover and live abundant life in five ways from our text.
1. JESUS CHRIST GIVES SALVATION – Vs. 18a
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor;
- Christ Jesus reconnects people with God, the Creator, to experience a new life that is going to be fulfilled, meaningful, secured, complete, and free.
- “Gospel” means good news. The “poor” refers to people spiritually blinded or prevented by Satan from knowing their Creator personally – 2 Cor. 4:-4.
- Sin is disobeying and contradicting God’s nature and His Word – Gen. 2:15-17
- Man’s relationship and communication with God became dead because of sin
As a result, there is Frantic Spiritual Needs by Man from his Creator caused by
• Emptiness in the heart of man
• Desire to know the purpose of life- Ephesians 2:10.
• Concern of what comes after – John 3:17-18
• The longing to relate with the spiritual world
- Jesus Christ is empowered to save man from sin that separates him from God eternally through the gospel – Romans 1:16
2. JESUS CHRIST GIVES RESTORATION – Vs. 18b
The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me…. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted
- Christ heals emotional wounds and restores broken lives miraculously.
- God anointed Jesus Christ to give complete healing to the broken-hearted.
- Bondage of hurts restricts a person from having positive emotion and drives him into having more negative feelings. The person is unable to set himself free from such bondage in the soul.
- Emotional wounds or past hurts like rejections (childhood, adolescence, early adulthood, and adulthood), abuses of all kinds (verbal, emotional, physical, and sexual), defeat, failure, shame, disgrace, frustration, disappointment, sadness and grief.
- Only God’s power can break the bondage of past hurts, heal emotional wounds, and restore joy to life.
Isaiah 53:4-5
- The above scripture shows sin is the cause for sorrows and pains in human life. Christ had to be wounded on the cross for our transgressions and iniquities to take away the sorrows or pains in our lives.
- Christ gives new hope to those who are emotionally down by taken away their sins and pains and give them a purposeful life.
3. JESUS CHRIST GIVES RENEWAL – Vs. 18c
The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me…He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives
- Christ Jesus sets people free from the bondage of delusion and renews their minds to appreciate God’s guidance.
- Delusion is a false belief regarding “self” and things outside the “self”
- “Captives” in this scripture refers to people whom Satan has swayed into the bondage of materialistic delusion. They feel life is ultimately boring and aimless.
1 John 5:19-20
- No human effort can set the mind free from the bondage of worldly delusion.
- Only Jesus the Saviour - Renewer has the anointing to break it from a life and give him power to live in the direction of God.
The truth that you have received with an open heart releases your mind from bondage of worldly delusion.
Philippians 4:8
4. JESUS CHRIST GIVES HEALING – Vs. 18c
The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me,...He has sent Me To proclaim… recovery of sight to the blind
- Christ Jesus has power and authority over every form of sicknesses and diseases. Either short or long term.
- Luke 4:27
- Mark 2:3
- Matthew 9:20
- Mark 7:32
- The hindrance to healing apart from sin is unbelief - Mark 6:5-6
- Your healing may involve your repentance from certain sins – John 5:14
- You can access your healing now if you have faith – Mark 11:23; Luke 5:17
5. JESUS CHRIST GIVES DELIVERANCE – Vs. 18d
The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me,...He has sent Me To set at liberty those who are oppressed
- Jesus Christ can set free lives that are bound in spiritual problems.
- “Oppress” means “crushed, shattered to pieces.” It means a life that is paralyzed by demonic power
- Isaiah said, “He has anointed Me… to proclaim… the opening of the prison to those who are bound” Isaiah 61:1-2
Demons can damage a person’s life in five ways:
• Generation bondage- This is a consequence of the sin of idolatry that moves through the family line (Exodus 20:4-6)
• Spiritual oppression- This aims to weaken a person’s moral resistance to tear down his good values
- Acts 10:38
• Prolonged torment- Torment aims to attack a person’s defense to inflict long duration sufferings – Luke 13:11
• Demonic possession- Possession aims to take over the spiritual right of a person and manipulate him to do evils for Satan – Matthew 17:15
- Demons possess a person to control his will and action.
• Dreadful insanity- This aims to dysfunction a person completely Mark 5:2-5
The ways out of this:
* Believe in the Saviour – the Deliverer
* Break generation curse
* Exercise spiritual power and authority
* Plead the blood of the Lamb
* Command in the Name of Jesus Christ.
